This retro $597k home in Clinton Township has a mirrored indoor koi pond — and we are speechless

Every once and a while a house comes along that leaves us, well, speechless. And if you know us at all, you know we like to talk, especially when it comes to unique homes that have recently hit Michigan's eclectic real estate market. This custom home in Clinton Township has a certain je ne sais quoi and is unlike anything we've ever seen. It's over the top. It's retro. It's extremely specific and will likely appeal to a buyer with a doll collection — and this is the first time the home has been on the market.

Built in 1969, this 4,504 square foot home includes four bedrooms and four bathrooms and is situated on a private cul-de-sac with a circular driveway that can fit 10 cars, and a side driveway that can fit an additional six. The home's exterior does not allude, like, at all, as to what the interior looks like. Sure, the yard features an inground pool and several patio areas suitable for entertaining, but all of that is seemingly understated when compared to the home's interior design, which can only be described as “grandma has a secret.” OK — so maybe we're not speechless after all.

Upon entering through the grand marble foyer, you'll find a four-by-eight-foot koi pond complete with a mirror and a Greek statue, because why the hell not? There's a large family/sitting room with a fireplace and a solid cherry wood kitchen that connects to three different dining areas: a breakfast bar, a nook, and a formal dining room. All of the home's spacious bedrooms come heavily wallpapered and, in some cases, mirrored, with bathrooms that, well,  let's just say have their own quirky identity. There's the blue-tiled bath that has a built-in Formica vanity as well as a dry sauna. Then there's a pink bathroom, which has pink wood, pink double sinks, pink tile, and a pink bathtub. But, perhaps the crown jewel of this home's bathroom options, comes in a very un-mellow yellow. The wrap-around vanity has yellow sinks, the walls are coated in a bold yellow paint, and the floor and half-wall are tiled in white and yellow, and yes, it has a matching yellow tub. But there's more.

The lower level, which is basically an additional 4,400 square feet of living space, can fit table seating for up to 40 people. There's a full kitchen, too, a full bar, room for entertaining, gaming, and a turquoise bathroom.

This home is listed by Gregory Rogers and Sarah Grillo-Rogers of The Rogers Team Re/Max.
