John Cleese
@ the Fillmore
Monty Python co-founder John Cleese is known for his signature ’stache and serial monogamy — other than, you know, the comedy stuff. He’s starred in an endless list of iconic films, from the Meaning of Life, to James Bond, to Harry Potter. His stop in Detroit will include a chat with the audience and a screening of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Fun fact: Cleese’s surname was originally “Cheese,” but his father changed it while enlisting in the army. Guess John didn’t get his sense of humor from Daddy.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; 2115 Woodward Ave., Detroit; 313-961-5451; thefillmoredetroit.com; Tickets start at $66.

Rob Zombie
@ DTE Energy Music Theatre
Is there a better way to celebrate the end of summer than some face-melting metal? Radio station 101 WRIF proudly presents the RIFF FEST, a one-night-only explosion of the world’s best metal. You’ll get to hear from lesser-known acts like Greta Van Fleet and Fozzy, but the real fun comes later in the evening when legends like Five Finger Death Punch and motherfuckin’ Rob Zombie take the stage and shred your heart (and your eardrums) into a million tiny pieces.
Doors open at 1:30 p.m.; 7774 Sashabaw Rd., Clarkston; 248-377-0100; palacenet.com; Tickets $25 for lawn, $55, $85, and $90 for pavilion.

Tei Shi
@ El Club
Tei Shi is one of those singers who crisscrosses so many musical styles it’s hard to pigeonhole her into any one genre. The Argentina-born, New York-based songstress has been on the scene since 2013, performing at festivals like Coachella and Electric Forest and opening for acts like Grimes, but she released her debut album just this year. Crawl Space is, if nothing else, a stunning showcase of layered vocals, incredible range, and a soft alt-R&B sensibility that groups her in with the likes of SZA and Banks.
Doors open at 8 p.m.; 4114 W. Vernor Hwy., Detroit; 313-436-1793; elclubdetroit.com; Tickets range from $15-$17.

The four-piece group, veterans of iconic music festivals like Glastonbury, Coachella, and Bonnaroo, are sure to give a raucous performance of tracks both new and old. They just released a new music video for “Agnes,” the fourth single off their second album entitled How to Be a Human Being.

The Rocky Horror Show
@ Ringwald Theatre
In a way, a stage presentation of The Rocky Horror Show is a return to roots, as what became a “picture show” started as a live musical comedy in London in 1973. Leave it to the irreverent cross-dressing thespians at the Ringwald to bring the kinky show to the stage with all the slap-and-tickle you’d expect. The story of clean-cut Brad and Janet, and their descent into a disorienting world of sexual urges, should be a crowd-pleaser.
Shows begins at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Mondays; Shows at 7 and 10 p.m. on Saturdays through Oct. 30, with a special midnight show on Saturday, Oct. 28; 22742 Woodward Ave., Ferndale; 248-545-5545; theringwald.com; Tickets are $25 Fridays and Saturdays, $10 Mondays.

Stupor: Pure Trash Release Party
@ Ghost Light Hamtramck
Brilliant as they may be at casting written compositions, the folks behind Stupor, Detroit’s longest running zine, know that authors are not always great orators. So, they’re collaborating with actors from Planet Ant, who will read the entirety of their latest issue, entitled "Pure Trash," during this especially collaborative release party. The evening will also include performances by Tijuana Hercules, the Gashounds, Young Grudges, and the Potions.
Starts at 8 p.m.; 2314 Caniff St., Hamtramck; stuporzine.com; Tickets are $5.

Posh Deux
@ Alfred Taubman Center for Design Education
An industrial, blue-collar city at heart, Detroit’s known for being home to the Big 3. Yet, the metro area is a hotbed of artistic activity, with talented fashion designers, makeup artists, and hairstylists working daily to create avant garde looks. An annual event, Posh Deux, brings together the area’s most creative artists and fuses together these beauty industries for a night of haute fun. The party is more than just a runway show, it’s also a fundraiser for the local charity Wigs4Kids, an organization that gifts hair pieces to youngsters who suffer from childhood disease.
Starts at 6:30 p.m.; 460 W. Baltimore Ave., Detroit; poshdeux.com; Tickets are $50 to $75.

Broken Social Scene
@ Fillmore
Part of the excitement of any Broken Social Scene announcement — be it a tour or a new album — is the excitement of finding out who is going to show up for this particular go-around. Originally founded by Canadian indie rockers Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning, the duo has added dozens of musicians over the years including Leslie Feist of Feist, Emily Haines of Metric, and singer Amy Millan. The band released their latest album called Hug of Thunder over the summer with lead single “Halfway There” climbing the charts. The band recently performed at the Meadows Music Festival where members Emily Haines and Amy Millian appeared on stage with the group.
Doors open at 7 p.m.; 2115 Woodward Ave., Detroit;

Skeleton Crew opening night
@ Max M. Fisher Music Center
To many, Detroit felt like ground zero of the devastating 2008 house market crash and ensuing Great Recession. Auto workers were hit especially hard, many losing their jobs due to money-saving cuts. This stage show, the culmination of Dominique Morisseau's acclaimed Detroit trilogy, follows the small staff at Detroit’s last exporting auto plant. They’re pushed to the limit, and they’ll have to rely on their makeshift and shrinking work family to survive.
Starts at 8 p.m.; 3711 Woodward Ave., Detroit; 313-576-5111; detroitpublictheatre.org; General admission is $45.

Detroit Fall Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show
@ William M. Costick Activities Center
Daughter of the Midwest and Cleveland native Becki Silverstein started this craft fair in 2011 while looking for a way to promote her own handmade business. Sure, metro Detroit’s got plenty of these vendor-based events, but that doesn’t make this baby any less worthy of your time (and $3 admission fee). You’ll catch up with local artists and have the chance to pick up a couple super cool Christmas gifts — you’re not going to find anything like this stuff at the mall on Dec. 23. Some of the proceeds will go toward Paws for Life Animal Rescue, so you can feel good about helping a local nonprofit while you’re shopping.
Show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; 28600 11 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills; avantgardeshows.com; Admission is $3.

Against Me!
@ Majestic Theatre
What started as a solo project for musician Laura Jane Grace 20 years ago has evolved to one of punk rock’s most important bands ever. Against Me! has seen a cast of band members come and go, yet Grace has been the backbone. She came out as transgender in 2012, and the band hit commercial and critical success when they released 2014’s Transgender Dysphoria Blues. The record recalled early Against Me!, but felt a whole lot more honest and real. The band’s latest album dropped in 2016 and the quartet will drop into Midtown’s Majestic Theatre for a raw, honest showcase of punk rock.
Doors open at 7 p.m.; 4140 Woodward Ave., Detroit;
313-833-9700; majesticdetroit.com; Tickets are $20, $25 at the door.

Pelican
@ The Loving Touch
Sometimes you just need to sip on a strong cocktail and listen to some hardcore post-punk rock to get you through you day, and that’s OK, Pelican is here for you. The quartet from Des Plaines, Illinois has been making a ruckus since 2001 when they released their first EP. Since then, their sound has evolved to almost only instrumental at times, using distorted guitar sounds and heavy bass and drums.
Doors at 7 p.m.; 22634 Woodward Ave., Ferndale; 248-820-5596; thelovingtouchferndale.com; Tickets are $15.

Paul McCartney
@ Little Caesars Arena
Sir Paul McCartney just played a jam-packed show at Joe Louis Arena in 2015, but a two-date stop at the newly opened Little Caesars Arena is more than welcome. The former Beatle has been touring his One on One show over the last year and we’re excited to hear his classic tracks performed at the new arena — it’ll be something of a spiritual cleansing after those six Kid Rock shows. We’re counting on hearing tunes like “Hey Jude,” “Helter Skelter,” and a few other timeless tracks. Is it possible McCartney might bring out a couple Motown legends like, say, Stevie Wonder? Hey, a girl can dream.
Doors open at 7 p.m.; 2645 Woodward Ave,. Detroit; 313-471-7000; olympiaentertainment.com; Tickets start at $59.60.

Alison Krauss & David Gray
@ Fox Theatre
Fun fact: Alison Krauss has won more Grammy awards than any other female singer. That’s right, the bluegrass/country singer has 27 golden gramophones to her name. Krauss is known for collaborating with other artists (seriously do yourself a favor and listen to her 2007 collaborative album with Robert Plant called Raising Sand, you’ll thank us later). She’ll be joined on stage at the Fox with British singer David Gray, who is known for his past hits like “Babylon” and the tearjerker “This Year’s Love.” We’re not sure what these two will sound like when they’re on stage together, but we’re sure that it will be nothing short of amazing.
Doors at 7:30 p.m.; 2211 Woodward Ave., Detroit; 313-471-3200; olympiaentertainment.com; Tickets start at $35.
