Dex Romweber
@ PJ’s Lager House
Perpetually handsome crazed surf, garage, and roots-based singer-songwriter icon Dex Romwber’s CV looks like some kind of Zelig-style joke about authenticity. Born the seventh son of a coal miner’s daughter in the mid-1960s, he was featured in the Athens, Ga., music documentary Inside Out and his band Flat Duo Jets were a major inspiration for the White Stripes and countless others. Tonight he is joined by the Legendary Shack Shakers’ founder JD Wilkes and local upstart Todd Albright, so this is really one not to miss if you own even one flannel shirt and aren’t a jerk.
Doors at 8 p.m.; 1254 Michigan Ave., Detroit; pjslagerhouse.com; tickets are $10.

Eskimeaux, Stef Chura
@ El Club
Eskimeaux is the recording project of Gabrielle Smith, an engaging American singer-songwriter and producer from Brooklyn, New York whose music is beat-driven and downright poetic bedroom pop. Our pal Stef Chura just gets better all the time, with her mellifluous grunge yodeling, snakey guitar lines, and superb backing band. You are a chump if you show up late to this without an excellent excuse.
Starts at 7 p.m.; 4114 Vernor Hwy., Detroit; elclubdetroit.com; $10 in advance, $12 day of show.

Frightened Rabbit
@ Pyramid Scheme
We don’t showcase a lot of Grand Rapids shows, but the town is super awesome and has some great venues that are worth making the trip. One of them is the Pyramid Scheme, and they will be hosting Frightened Rabbit. The band comes from Scotland on a tour supporting their fifth album, Painting of a Panic Attack, and have been playing shows at festivals like Glastonbury and the upcoming Austin City Limits. If you live in the GR area or are up for a road trip, this will be a show worth going to.
Doors at 8 p.m.; 68 Commerce Ave. SW., Grand Rapids; Tickets are $20.

Laith Al-Saadi
@ The Fillmore
What else can we say about Ann Arbor hometown hero and fantastic musician Laith Al-Saadi? The guy made it pretty damn far on this past season of the NBC singing competition The Voice, and just headlined one of the nights at Royal Oak’s Arts, Beats, and Eats. Al-Saadi has gained quite the following here in Detroit and we are super pumped to see him headlining the Fillmore. Plus, The Accidentals are opening for him, which is pretty rad.
Doors at 7 p.m.; 2115 Woodward Ave., Detroit; thefillmoredetroit.com; Tickets range from $20-$50.

Morgan Delt
@ UFO
Los Angeles-based Morgan Delt just released his second album, the delightful Phase Zero, for Sub Pop, and before you turn and hide when I describe it as “psychedelic” (because isn’t everything these days — and to be honest, dude’s first album didn’t quite cut the mustard) this is some seriously groovy, gauzy, and good-vibes shit. It’s sunshine-y, but has a dark edge to it, just like Delt’s hometown.
Doors at 8 p.m.; 2110 Trumbull St., Detroit; ufofactory.com; $10.

NRBQ vs. Los Straitjackets
@ Magic Bag
This is quite an event for connoisseurs of American roots music: Two of its most adept, wily practitioners teaming up to face off and get down. NRBQ remains one of the most unpredictable, savvy, just plain ridiculously fun bands on the face of the planet. It’s a wonder they didn’t pick up most of the Grateful Dead’s audience after Jerry made his final ascent, but it must be their lack of obviousness that got in the way. Los Straitjackets play a supercharged brand of instrumental music that mixes and matches decades’ worth of sound. But it’s OK if you just call them those surf rock guys in the Mexican wrestling masks, because that’s basically what they are. But they’re also much, more, so it’s fitting they’re playing with NRBQ tonight.
Doors at 8 p.m.; 22920 Woodward Ave., Ferndale; themagicbag.com; $25.

Of Montreal
@ Magic Stick
This is probably the first big show that the reopened Magic Stick is putting on, and we are pumped that it happens to be Of Montreal. The rock band was not formed in Montreal, but Athens, Ga. a hot spot of music that many bands like the B-52’s, R.E.M., and Widespread Panic hail from.
Of Montreal first hit the scene back in 1996 and has continued to turn out amazing rock records. In August, the band released its latest album, Innocence Reaches, which blends their funky glam-rock into the newer electronic scene. The Magic Stick will be the perfect spot for this wildly fun band.
Doors at 8 p.m.; 4140 Woodward Ave., Detroit; majesticdetroit.com; tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door.

Paws in the Park
@ Memorial Park
Everyone deserves some weekend fun — and the people at Paws in the Park Royal Oak agree. They have planned a unique event just for your dog. Featuring contests, shows, and exhibitors — there are a lot of canine-themed novelties at the event. Does your dog need a new hairdo? Looking for a chunky puppy sweater for the holiday season? Pet adoption and rescue services will also be available at the event, so if you’re looking to take on a new mouth to feed, or you just want to pet some cute dogs, look no further. It isn’t every day that you can give your dog some stimulation outside the electric fence.
Runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; 31100 Woodward Ave., Royal Oak; pawsintheparkroyaloak; $5 at the gate, children 10 and younger are free.

Hannibal Buress
@ Masonic Temple
You may recognize him as Alana’s on-again-off-again boyfriend in Comedy Central’s Broad City. He plays Lincoln, a New York dentist with a penchant for fixing Alana’s dubious mistakes. Buress is bringing his comedic excellence to the Masonic Temple and hopefully will be bringing some of his controversial (but funny as hell) jokes to the stage.
Starts at 7 p.m.; 500 Temple St., Detroit; the masonic.com; Tickets are $35.

ACCIDENTALLY HIP
@The Encore Music Theatre
If you’re a true jazz music fan, you may recognize the likes of Bobby Shew, who played with the Buddy Rich gang back in the ’60s. Having played at some elite jazz venues in the area, like Baker’s Keyboard Lounge, ACCIDENTALLY HIP is playing swing and ragtime, classic and modern at the Encore Music Theatre in Dexter. Considering the lineup, perhaps it isn’t such an accident that they are one of the most popular jazz bands in the state.
Doors open at 7:30 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m.; 3126 Broad St., Dexter; theencoretheater.org;
734-628-6200; tickets are $15.

Yoga at the Orchard
@ Blake’s Hard Cider Co.
A booze-filled yoga session is just what the doctor ordered this week. Blake’s Hard Cider Co. is hosting a one-hour yoga class on their patio — and they are promising hard cider and doughnuts along with your ticket purchase. This isn’t really an event that one needs to be sold on, basically anyone who loves fall and can get down with a little bit of yoga is a perfect candidate. Just don’t forget to bring your mat!
Runs from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.; 17985 Armada Center Rd., Armada; blakeshardcider.com; 586-784-9463; tickets are $20.

Any sane member of society loves food trucks — they are a novelty that transcends the modern fast-food experience and makes it fun and delicious again. On the second Wednesday of each month, food trucks gather indoors and outdoors at the Royal Oak Farmers Market, allowing the public to enjoy delicacies that range from firestone pizza to corned beef topped hot dogs. Wastedland: Detroit
@ Recycle Here
OK, so this is not a music show, but rather a group exhibition in a huge, raw space that also will incorporate a film screening, art exhibition, and live DJs. The visual elements will be post-apocalyptic and fascinating, and ritualistic and righteous. The rustic setting will remind you of Detroit events in olden pre-New Detroit times. As part of the second annual Murals in the Market, the show will debut Andrew H. Shirley’s exciting film Wastedland 2. The reason we are hyping it here is because DJ Ihatejail.com is none other than Crazy Jim from Wolf Eyes, so now you know you have to be there, because that guy seriously has the best taste and is totally a no-bullshit guy.
Starts at 10 p.m.; 1331 Holden St., Detroit; free.
