Detroit was one of only four cities to have Pepsi's #TheRecipe tour make a stop. On February 16, 2016, the event, which was hosted by hip-hop royal Angela Simmons (Rev Run of Run DMC's daughter, niece of mogul Russell Simmons) and multi-talented artist Mack Wilds (The Wire), took place at The Garden Theater in Midtown.
The evening featured a panel conversation with innovators who are using their recipe for success to change the game and inspired an audience of all ages. Local movers and shakers including former Detroit Lions player Joique Bell, Tommy Walker of Detroit vs. Everybody, Samantha White of Shakespeare in Detroit, and Phil Black of The Manhood Project were honored and shared some of their greatest success stories. At the end of the event the hosts and honorees were all rewarded a Spirit of Detroit Award by councilwoman Mary Sheffield.
