Looking to add a four-legged friend to the family this holiday, instead of heading to the pet store check out these furbabies awaiting a loving home at the Detroit Dog Rescue (15612 Harper Ave., Detroit; 313-458-8010). DDR opened in 2014 as the first and only no-kill shelter in the city of Detroit. Their mission is to advocate for alternatives to euthanasia, proper pet care education, low cost spay and neutering programs, as well as, assisting low income families with pet food and medical resources. Those interested in adopting can fill out an adoption application on the DDR website. The adoption fee for dogs is $250.00 and $300.00 for puppies. The fees help DDR to cover the spay/neuter of your new pet, current shots, temperament testing and temporary boarding of the animal. DDR’s motto is simple, “Rescue. Not Retail.” For more information and updates on dogs visit their Facebook page.
